Depression has many facets and can be a short or long term experience. You may have a reactive depression as a result of a life event such as the sudden death of a loved one. The sadness and grief you experience may moderate over a short period of time and you move on in your life. If the initial grief does not resolve over a reasonable period of time, you move into a chronic low-grade depression. Each day feels burdensome and difficult. You may experience anxiety and panic, a sense of hopelessness and helplessness. Yet you may still be able to function, though not at the level you desire. You may feel like this for many years. Or, you may move into a major depression that is totally disabling. In this state, you may not be able to get out of bed in the morning, may have no energy, may feel totally unable to cope with life day to day, and may wonder if life has any meaning for you.
I will evaluate your depression and work with you to identify its underlying cause. I teach people how to access and identify their feelings and use their voice so they can truly express what it is they think, need, and want. We will work together to release connections to painful memories and emotions, so that you won't live in the past, remembering and reliving events that created trauma for you. We will explore the reasons you get into unhealthy relationships, or move from job to job, or find yourself in conflict with others so often. We will identify the emotional issues that keep you locked into unhealthy behavioral patterns and explore ways to stop that behavior, develop self-esteem and empower yourself. You can release the depression and move forward. You will stop celebrating victimhood and start celebrating life. You will learn you are not a victim and don't have to be a victim. If you need a medication consult, I will refer you to a psychopharmacologist.
